Frequently Asked Questions

HOW FAST WILL THE RIDEKICK™ POWER TRAILER GO?

The motor will push it about 18 – 19 miles per hour. If it goes faster than 20 mph under the motor’s power, it is classified as a motor vehicle and has special regulations (licensing, age limits, etc.).

HOW FAR WILL IT GO?

The Ridekick power trailer will go about 12 – 15 miles on a charge depending on a variety of factors, including the weight of the rider, weight of the cargo, terrain, amount of pedal assist the rider provides and the outside temperature.

DOES IT “FISH-TAIL” WHEN THE POWER IS ON?

No, the wheels roll forward with the push of the Ridekick power trailer.

DOES IT USE A RECHARGEABLE BATTERY?

Yes, it’s a rechargeable sealed lead-acid (SLA) battery. We use SLA for several reasons. It is a lower cost that other types of batteries and enables people to enjoy an electric assist on their bikes more economically. It is heavier, so it helps provide better traction for the Ridekick power trailer. Most SLAs are made with 60 – 80% recycled lead and plastic, so the recycling processes are well-developed and in place. Consumers can easily find locations to responsibly recycle them (according to federal law, the cannot be deposited in landfills).

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO RECHARGE THE BATTERY AND WHERE DO I DO IT?

It takes 4 – 6 hours to fully charge it. You plug it into a normal household outlet (110v).

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO CHARGE IT?

Based on average energy costs, it costs about 2 cents to give the battery a full charge. The equivalent carbon footprint (coal-powered energy source vs. gasoline energy source) for the use of the Ridekick power trailer is about 900 miles per gallon. The equivalent of 4 gallons of gas (in carbon footprint) to cross the US on a Ridekick power trailer!

HOW MANY VOLTS AND AMP HOURS IS THE BATTERY?

We use 24 volts and 12 amp hours to power the Ridekick power trailer.

HOW CAN I GET MORE RANGE OUT OF MY BATTERY?

There are a few ways to increase the range on your battery. One way is to use less throttle power, meaning not pushing the throttle all the way down. Instead of going the full 19mph, go 15 miles per hour and get more miles out of your Ridekick trailer. Pedaling along with the power assist also helps you get more range out of your battery.

WHAT KIND OF MOTOR IS IT?

It’s a 500-watt brush motor.

HOW MUCH DOES IT WEIGH?

It weighs about 45 pounds – 23 pounds of battery/motor and 22 pounds of trailer.

HOW MUCH SPACE IS IN THE CARGO BIN?

Holding capacity of 41.8 liters.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

The manufacturer suggested retail price is $699.
